Hair Care Tips for Different Hair Types

Hair care is an important part of self-care. Your hair is prone to damage due to exposure to harsh environmental conditions, chemicals such as bleach, artificial hair colors, and heat styling products. Thus, it becomes necessary to follow a proper hair care routine to preserve the health of your locks.

The “hair type” of a person is determined by a series of factors: their ethnicity, the coil of their hair strands, and the shape of their hair follicles.

Type I – Straight hair

Straight hair is the most common hair type and is the easiest to care for. It holds more amount of oil or sebum in its strands and is thus usually softer and more manageable.

Straight hair is further divided into three types depending on the thickness of the hair strands: fine straight hair, medium straight hair, and coarse straight hair.

Type II – Wavy hair

Wavy hair lies somewhere between straight hair and curly hair. Wavy-haired people have a very soft natural curl that is often described as “waves” by hair care experts.

It is again divided into three types: fine, medium, and thick wavy hair.

Type III – Curly hair

Curly hair refers to hair that has prominent curls that look like loops along their length. Curly hair is usually thicker than other types of hair and is prone to frizz and dryness if not cared for properly.
